Man on the Moon

by Eyal de Leeuw | 25.08.12

Astronaut Neil Armstrong, who became the first person to walk on the moon, has died at the age of 82. He was the commander of the Apollo 11 mission, and became became the first human to set foot on the moon on July 20, 1969 (““That’s one small step for (a) man, one giant leap for mankind.”) For the Garconniere he was also a style icon.

In honor of the first man to walk on the moon, The Garconniere is contemplating about astronauts and menswear: the white spacesuits, the helmets, the gloves. Futurism meets style. Like riders in the storm, Apollo version

From Armstrong to Thom Browne.

When Neil Armstrong stepped onto the lunar surface in July of 1969, he wore spacesuits made by Playtex: twenty-one layers of fabric, each with a distinct yet interrelated function, custom-sewn for him (Spacesuit – Fashioning Apollo by Nicholas de Monchaux).

The Garconniere can only dream about one custom sewn shirt he wants for himself and about (a) man walking on the moon with a crisp white suit.
