Jacket Full Of Hope

Two influential designers, both 44 years old and both have their past deeply rooted in Men’s fashion history are now in the center of what’s called the new “battle of Paris”. Raf Simons, who magnificently premiered his ready-to-wear collection for Dior today, and Hedi Slimane, who will fete his return to business at the helm of Saint Lauren Paris on Monday – are about to enter Paris fashion week into a new era.

But while everyone is talking about the big rivalry (Suzy Menkes has already covered the historical aspect of the “fight of the fashion titans“) The Garconniere wants to look at the beautiful homage Simons paid to Helmut Lang, perhaps the prophet of 90’s minimalism in fashion, during the Dior show. One could not think of an outfit more different from Dior’s previous designer, John Galliano, as Simons came on stage wearing a Helmut Lang denim jacket from 1996 (the year Simons started his own men’s wear label)
Who said that one designer cannot pay respect to another.
