Adam Gefen is a young Israeli designer that captured The Garconnierre’s attention. Beside his unique view on menswear, his interesting designs and beautiful sense of colors and shapes, he is one of a few new local designers that focuses on menswear, and by doing so he gives The Garconniere some hopes that a local point of view can make a change.
“The Winter collection was inspired by my neighborhood” he says to The Garconniere, sitting on the balcony facing Florentin’s streets where African immigrants, hipsters and garages live side by side. You can see the multi-cultural influence on his fabrics – floral prints that bring to mind african vibe, 80’s fabrics that look three dimensional and safari jacket with beautiful zebra-like print and lining (check out the pine cone inside pocket!).
“I’m exploring other definitions of the human body”, he says referring to the oversize shapes and cuts of many of his designs, “I started because I wanted to do clothes for myself, and by doing so I wanted to redefine what men are wearing and how they are looking at themselves. The Africans prints, the mustard color pants – we need to be more courageous and wear what we feel”.
Most of Gefen’s designs follow his beliefs: the oversize shapes, the colors and the overall feel of an urban camouflage style – a collage of shapes and prints that plays with the city landscape and makes one’s appearance like no other.
