Islands in the Stream
by Eyal de Leeuw | 11.05.13“2_Morumara” isĀ Adam Gefen‘s second collection where he continuos to examine the strange beautify of fabrics and shapes of the male wardrobe, taking his inspiration from the french Polynesia.
“The collection was inspired by satellite vies of the region, alongside the specific architectural traditions that have developed due to the special terrain”, he said when The Garconnieres met him this spring. “what I like about it is the shapes of the islands, contour of lands and oceans, superimpositions of things on top of other things, the dynamic nature of the geography of the islands along with the life of the people who live there”.
But not only the shapes and textures of the islands interest Gefen, it is also the culture and the immediate references that go along with the french Polynesia. “Bora Bora, the resort appeal of the place, the French army that ruled the islands around the end of the 19th century and the atomic warfare tests that took place there. It’s the combination of resort fashion, post colonialism and the free spirit of the sea that influenced my collection”, he says.
The collection has 3 dimensional feel, from stitches to the fabrics and shapes: lots of sea blue, island shirts, tropical prints, genuine cuts and shapes. You can expect drop crotch pants, shorts, colorful oversize shirts and T-shirts, button down shirts, bags and a great play between slim and wide shapes for the (post) modern man.
You can find Adam Gefen’s collection at: Not For Sale, 3 Baaley Melacha St and Retro, 16 King Goerge st.
