Best of London Collections: Men

by Eyal de Leeuw | 19.06.14

It’s the season again where men’s fashion news are reaching the headlines, with the British event London Collection: Men is competing with Florence veteran fair Pitti Uomo on the industry’s attention. Here are some of The Garçonnière highlights from the British capital:

Captain of the capital today is with with no doubt mr. JW Anderson, who keeps sharpening his poetic language, influencing young designers and leading a new path to the British men’s fashion industry.

Burberry presented a classic, cheerful and colorful show under the rarely-sunny London sky in Kensington Gardens. Hats were a leitmotiv through the collection which was inspired by the work of travel writer Bruce Chatwin.

And watch this beautiful video of the collection:

And then came the new star in the sky. Protégé of Louise Wilson and fresh graduate from Central Saint Martins Craig Green was the name to drop this week in London.
Dazed back-stage report about the show was titled “Why everyone was crying at the Craig Green show“, Susie Buble was full of praises (such as “magnificent, ethereal and tearjerker”), Alexander Fury called Green “excellent, perhaps even exceptional, talent” and Tim Blanks declared that “The Cult of Craig is about to explode“. And that was only his debut collection.
Stripping fashion from its conventions Green sent barefoot men to a disturbing silent protest on stage. The cloths are hard to understand (and probably to wear) and it’s probably one of those moment that you have to be there in order to feel and understand the energy of fashion.
