The Gucci Fightersby Eyal de Leeuw | 03.12.15
Itai Doron is an accomplished Israeli photographer, who resides in London and is the Course Director of Fashion Photography at The London College of Fashion. Doron’s unique visual language and impressive oeuvre brought him a recent invitation to create a special fashion production for Numéro Homme Berlin, featuring Gucci’s new menswear collection.
In order to subvert the general aesthetic which is currently associated with Gucci, under the helm of creative director Alessandro Michele, Doron’s cast is made entirely of cage fighters and boxers.
The majority are East Europeans that he already has worked with in his art work. The only British one is Alex Reid, who at 40 is as famous for his cage fighting as he is for dating glam models and having a penchant for cross dressing (his alter ego is called Roxanne).
The shoot was styled by Benjamin Kirchhoff of Meadham Kirchhoff and together with Doron’s special interpretation of the collection the impact of those portraits is powerful and immersive.
