Bassan’s Winter Taleby Eyal de Leeuw | 06.01.16
It was almost a year ago that Bassan City, the article about Ariel Bassan’s first collection, was published in Telavivian. Now it is the second post, second collection and a call for action: a pop up shop of Bassan’s new work is open this week on 216 Dizengof street. Those are two good reasons to visit the battered street (store opens daily until Friday) and to shop for local talents.
Bassan’s Autumn-Winter collection, inspired by the Hasidic Jewish tradition, features a variety of minimalistic, tailored pieces with a modern edge. What sparked the idea for this collection was the importance of clothes in the Hasidic community. Fascinated by the complex role clothes play in this community, Bassan began to explore the various aspects of Hasidic clothing. The special attention and use of garments in different ceremonies and celebrations give them added value and importance.
